  1. I wouldn't include Dow Chem in a list of stocks that are supposed to provide dividends with "long-term stability". Dow cut its dividend by more than 50% in 2009.

    I own CAT and PSX. PSX was obtained as a spin-off from COP, and I kept it, despite the fact that it didn't technically meet my minimum criterion of 10-yrs-with-no-dividend-cut. PSX's dividend is just 22% of earnings--that's the best ratio of the 50 dividend stocks that I track.

    CAT currently ranks #3 on my list of 50 div stocks, in part because it has raised its dividend for 22 consecutive years.
