I'm a real dividend investor and I do search for stocks that pay solid dividends. High-Yields are good but that's not the trigger for my choice. I also try to avoid stocks that pay no dividends.
The ex-dividend date is a major issue related to the dividend payment. If I buy a stock before the ex-dividend date, I will receive the next dividend soon. That's good because I don't need to wait 3 months or a year or half year to receive the next payment.
