Here is a current sheet of the 15 biggest players within the property & casualty insurance industry. Insurance companies in this industry sell property insurance (insurance on homes, cars and businesses) casualty insurance (liability insurance). All stocks have a market capitalization of more than USD 4 billion. 80 Stocks are listed on American’s stock exchanges. Insurance companies make money by collecting premiums for the policies that they issue and by investing those premiums in the market. If the total amount that a company collects from premiums as well as the gains that it makes from its investments exceeds the amount that the company has to pay out in claims, then the company is able to turn a profit.

The average P/E ratio is 11.46 while the average dividend yield amounts to 2.21percent. Price to book ratio is 1.07 and price to sales ratio 1.07 too. The average operating margin amounts to 11.68 percent. Stocks are traded at AMEX, NYSE, NASDAQ as well as being part of the Dow Jones, S&P 500 or Nasdaq Composite.
