20 Undervalued Dividend-Paying Stocks

If you are concerned that current valuations may cast a shadow over the future returns of equity-income strategies, you're not alone. There's no telling how long dividend stocks' recent run of outperformance will continue.

But there are plenty of reasons to think that investing in steady dividend-paying stocks, particularly high-quality stocks that are healthy enough to not only sustain but possibly even increase their dividend, won't go out of style completely.

Investors still have need for income, and although interest rates are likely to rise, they are still very low by historical standards and are not expected to shoot up dramatically anytime soon.

To get a better sense of how over- or undervalued dividend-paying stocks are today, we run a screen with selection of dividend yield, P/E and growth and filtered those stocks with attractive ratios in most of the areas.

Here are the top results from our screen...

5 Great Dividend Paying Stocks With Yields Over 3% To Buy For 2017

Dividend stocks are income investor favorites because they not only pay cash to shareholders but also boost their payouts over time. These stocks are generally less volatile in nature and hence are often more dependable when it comes to long-term investment planning.

Dividend-paying stocks are particularly beneficial amid a low interest rate environment, as these stocks offer substantial yields on a regular basis. Moreover, such stocks are historically proven to outperform in the long term and are quite reliable in terms of wealth creation.

Yield is basically a stock’s annual dividend rate divided by its share price. A dividend yield can increase if a company boosts its payout. The yield can also rise if the share price falls. In fact, an ultra-high yield due to a plunging stock price may signal that a company is in trouble and is likely to cut or even suspend the dividend.

It's very important to own safe high yielding stocks. Not a high yield is the key for a successful investing, a stable and growing yield is the conclusion.

Attached you will find five stocks that offer current and historical dividend yield of more than 3% and might pay them for the next quarters.

These are the results...

13 Stocks With Dividend Growth In The Past Week

13 companies raised their dividends during the recent week. Dividend is so important for investors who like to grow their investments.

Below is a full list of all stocks that have raised their dividend payments within the past week. Five of the firms have a current yield of more than 3 percent.

Kroger, DTE Energy, Matson, Disney and Worthington Industries were the biggest stocks, all with a market capitalization above the one billion Mark.

Disney is for me the most impressive stocks. It has grown more to a merchandise company and licensing business than to an entertainment company, which is in general good.

I've missed the chance to buy the stock. I still believe that the current prices are too high but they truly reflect the strong growth which did not disappoint. Maybe I get some shares within the next market correction.

These are the latest dividend growers, sorted by yield....

Xcel Energy (XEL): An Electric Utility Stock Added To The Passive Income Portfolio

I’ve only two trades to hit the $3,000 expected dividend income by the end of this year. On the last trading day of the week, I decided to buy a new stake from the utility sector. It was the electric utility stock Xcel Energy. I was impressed about the solid earnings and dividend growth in the past. For sure the debt ratios are not impressive but for a utility company almost solid.

I purchased 50 shares at $28.21 which resulted in $1,410.50 total investment cost. The stake should increase the current portfolio income by $55 bucks per year to a total estimated amount of $2,934.19. That’s very close to my minimum target of $3,000.

Earnings and Dividends of Xcel Energy

XEL has a low forward P/E of 14.17 and yields at 3.97 percent. That’s a good number in my view because earnings are expected to grow by 6.70 percent for the next five years.

--------------------------------------
For readers who are new to the matter and my dividend growth philosophy: I funded a virtual portfolio with 100k on October 04, 2012 with the aim to build a passive income stream that doubles each five to ten years. I plan to purchase each week one stock holding until the money is fully invested. The total number of constituents is expected at 50 – 70 companies and the dividend income should be at least at $3,000 per year.
--------------------------------------

Stockholdings of the Dividend Yield Passive Income Portfolio are up 9.99 on average. Due to the high cash amounts over the recent year, the total performance is only at 10.21 percent. The major indices increased by 20 to 35 percent.

Latest Portfolio Performance (Click to enlarge)

For sure, the portfolio did not beat the market, but was not really invested. The major goal is also not to make quick money. The aim is to create a stable dividend income that doubles each ten years or less.

With remaining cash of $14,677, it’s still possible to boost the current income by $500 bucks but I plan to hold a significant amount of cash in order to be liquid when the markets are losing ground. Only in falling markets raises the possibility to get cheap long-term bets.
